National examinations for all H1 subjects will be taken at the end of JC2. The exceptions are H1 Project Work (PW) and H1 Mother Tongue Language (MTL), which will be taken in JC1.
Rank Points
The maximum number of rank points (RP) for admissions to university a student can achieve is 90. A higher score (out of 90) would place a student in a better position for admissions to university.
Computation of Rank Points without H1 MTL
A student’s rank points are calculated by adding together the rank points the student has achieved for
- best four content subjects (i.e. three H2 content subjects and one H1 content subject)
- H1 General Paper,
- and H1 Project Work.
A. Maximum Rank Points
= 3 H2 + 1 H1 + H1 GP + H1 PW
= 20 + 20 + 20 + 10 + 10 + 10
= 90 RP
In Case A, assuming a student achieves an ‘A’ for all subjects with the exception of a ‘B’ for one of his/her H2 subjects, the calculation of rank points is as follows:
Rank Points
= 3 H2 + 1 H1 + H1 GP + H1 PW
= 20 + 20 + 17.5 + 10 + 10 + 10
= 87.5 RP
Computation of Rank Points with H1 MTL
H1 MTL may be included in the computation of the rank points. In such an event, the rank points inclusive of H1 MTL will be rebased from /100 to /90.
B. Rank Points
= [(3 H2 + 1 H1 + H1 GP + H1 PW + H1 MTL) / 100] x 90
= [(20 + 20 + 20 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10) / 100] x 90
= (100 / 100) x 90
= 1 x 90
= 90 RP
In Case B, assuming the same student achieves an ‘A’ for all subjects (inclusive of H1 MTL) with the exception of a ‘B’ for one of his/her H2 subjects, the calculation of rank points inclusive of H1 MTL is as follows:

= [(3 H2 + 1 H1 + H1 GP + H1 PW + H1 MTL) / 100] x 90
= [(20 + 20 + 17.5 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10) / 100] x 90
= (97.5 / 100) x 90
= 0.975 x 90
= 87.75 RP
In the event of the inclusion of H1 MTL in the computation of rank points, the better (i.e. higher) of the two computed rank points (i.e. Case B (87.75 RP) in the example of Case A vs Case B) will be considered by the universities for admissions.
Computation of Rank Points for students who offer 4 H2 Subjects
Students who offer four H2 content subjects do not have a H1 content subject. In this case, the student’s weakest H2 subject will be computed as a H1 content subject. This means the student’s number of rank points achieved for that H2 subject will be halved (calculated as /10 instead of /20).
C. Rank Points
= 3 H2 + weakest 1 H2 calculated as 1 H1 + H1 GP + H1 PW
= 20 + 20 + 20 + 10 + 10 + 10
= 90
In Case C, assuming a student offers four H2 content subjects and achieves an ‘A’ for all subjects with the exception of a ‘B’ for one of his/her H2 subjects, the calculation of rank points is as follows:

= 3 H2 + weakest 1 H2 calculated as 1 H1 + GP + PW
= 20 + 20 + 20 + 8.75 + 10 + 10
= 88.75
